how do you make a secondlife avatar look like a sonic character

If your goal is to use the avatar in Second Life, you would need to use the “Appearance” tools to change the default avatar to look like your Sonic character. You would need to purchase a Sonic costume in Second Life.

If you are making a machinima in Second Life, you would use a digital compositing tool like iClone or FXComposite to import the Sonic character into your Second Life recording.

Buy or make one yourself or if your lucky you’ll find one in a free market. Unless you don’t have an adult account. I haven’t seen any free markets in the short time I was on the Child/Teen server.

If your going to make one I would suggest watching Torely’s videos on second life to get most of the basics on how to create things, and various other things you can do in SL.
He should have a video 3 or 4 videos down in the Related Videos Section on this page.
